Scholarship Opportunities

1) High school seniors can enter for a chance to win a $500 scholarship through the SunTrust Off To College Scholarship Sweepstakes. Students may begin entering the contest at beginning Sept. 12, 2016. Two winners will be randomly chosen during each drawing period from Oct. 28 through May 12 and students can re-enter the sweepstakes after each completed drawing.

2)  Governor Scott has announced the 2017 Black History Month student contests and educator awards, and the window is now open for submissions! The awards are cash prizes and three 4-year Florida College Prepaid Scholarships.

3) The 2017-2018 Visionary Scholarship Program is awarding scholarships from $1,000 to $5,000 to eligible 9th - 12th graders. Please visit for more details and to complete an online application. DEADLINE is May 1, 2017.

4) QuestBridge is a powerful platform that connects the nation's brightest students from low-income backgrounds with leading institutions of higher education and further opportunities.The 2017 College Prep Scholars Program application will open in mid-February.

The QuestBridge College Prep Scholars Program gives outstanding low-income high school juniors an early advantage in college admissions.

College Prep Scholars are uniquely prepared to gain admission and full scholarships to top-tier colleges through QuestBridge. The majority are also selected as Finalists for the National College Match. Being selected as a College Prep Scholar is a notable distinction that celebrates your achievements and gives you an early start in applying to college.

5)Wiregrass Federal Credit Union will be holding a scholarship essay contest for our student members.

This is a $1000 scholarship for one of our graduating senior members or dependent of a member in Jackson County. Any interested student that is not a member can join (for $6) and become eligible to participate in this scholarship opportunity. 

Scholarship Rules & Requirements
* Must be a member of Wiregrass FCU, or a dependent of a member, between the ages of 17 and 19 years.
* Must be a student graduating from high school in 2017 who will be attending an accredited university or college in 2017-2018 academic year.
* Essay must be 2-4 pages, typed, double spaced, and 10 point font.
* Essay topic: "What makes Wiregrass FCU the smarter financial choice?"
* Entries will be judged on content, grammar, and structure.
* Deadline for all entries is April 14, 2017.
* Essays may be mailed or dropped by your local Wiregrass Office.

6) The Wiregrass Federal Credit Union is holding a scholarship essay contest. Three scholarships will be awarded-one from each Wiregrass location (Andalusia, Dothan, and Marianna)-to a high school senior who is a member or a dependent of a member of WFCU. 7) Richard A. Hand Annual Scholarship Application 

Criteria: Must be a senior attending public, private or home school in Jackson County with a minimum 3.0 GPA
Scholarship will be $500.00 per fall and spring semester at Chipola College. Click here for additional requirements and application. 

8) Jackson County Optimist Club Scholarship Application Deadline is May 1st, 2017. Click here for details and application. 

9) The 2017 Wendy's Heisman Scholarship Application   Eligibility begins with maintaining a GPA of 3.0 (B average) or better. Applicants also need to be proven leaders and role models within their school and community. And applicants must perform in at least one of the 47 school sponsored sports recognized by the International Olympic Committee in the Summer and Winter Olympic Games or the National Federation of State High School Associations.

11) DKG (Delta Kappa Gamma) has scholarship opportunities for students in Washington and Jackson Counties who plan to seek a degree in Education. Click here for the application, deadline to apply is April 30, 2017.

12)The Florida Peanut Producers Association will award two $1,200 scholarships to high school seniors planning to attend a Florida College. Applicants or someone in the applicant's family must be an actively producing peanut grower. 13) The Marianna Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is offering a scholarship to high school seniors in need of financial assistance with a 2.75 GPA. Applicants must submit an application, official transcript, and 3 letters of recommendation by mail before May 19, 2017. Please see guidance to pick up an application.

14) Give Kids A Chance is providing scholarships to low income students. In order to apply for the Give Kids A Chance scholarship, the applicant must demonstrate the following criteria:
- Florida resident.
- Have a 2.5 average GPA or above.
- Documented financial need: eligible students must have a family income of less than 60% of the median family income in the area in which they reside.
- Demonstrate an interest in school and community activitites.
- Two (2) letters of recommendation.
Scholarship applications are available at (Click on Scholarship Application on left hand side of page).  They must be completed and submitted to GKAC by April 30th. Decisions will then be made concerning award recipients by May 30th of each year.

15)FPTC is offering a Cosmetology program scholarship to a deserving individual in memory of Mr. Kim Miller, our cosmetology instructor we lost last month.  Any Senior interested in a Cosmetology career, can apply for this scholarship. The deadline to apply is May 1st. Click for application.

16) The Florida Panhandle Technical College Foundation Scholarship was established to help students who demonstrate financial need to attend technical programs at Florida Panhandle Technical College. The scholarships may be awarded for tuition, books and educational expenses as determined by the Foundation Scholarship Committee. Click here for application and requirements.

17) Focus on Technology Scholarship 2017

1. Applicants will be notified of award by Thursday, June 1, 2017
2. Applicants MUST be High School Seniors

PURPOSE. The mission of the Focus on Technology Scholarship Program is to provide financial assistance to students who have exhibited academic excellence in computer science and technological innovation.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS. Focus School Software awards scholarships on the basis of a comprehensive process. An award amount of $1,000 will be given to the winning student to be used towards upcoming college funds. Areas reviewed by the committee include, but are not limited to the following: academic achievements and awards, extracurricular activities, and Technological Impact on the Future. Students should submit all Technology certifications acquired, and have a minimum GPA of a 3.0. Focus School Software pays scholarship funds directly to the student on a one-time basis. Scholarships awarded are based upon the availability of funds and additional qualifying criteria.
